Indian Point is in the process of seeking permits from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) that would ensure the plants' continued compliance with state water quality regulations. DEC staff has proposed that Indian Point either be required to conduct simultaneous, forced outages at both units during the summer or, alternately, forced outages at unit 3, while unit 2 is retrofitted for cooling towers.
Entergy continues to receive support from community, labor and business leaders for its opposition to cooling towers and its appeal that Wedgewire screens are the cleaner, safer and smarter option for Indian Point.
Indian Point operates safely, in accordance with state and federal laws, and in the best interest of New Yorkers. That includes operating with approval from the DEC of how the plant uses Hudson River water.
