Siren Sounding Update

NOTICE: New alert system testing SATURDAY, August 11 and TUESDAY, August 14, 2007

August 9, 2007

Entergy, in coordination with Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Putnam counties, will be testing the new Indian Point emergency notification sirens on Saturday, August 11 at 10:00 a.m. Testing outside of the regular business day -- Monday through Friday, between 9:00am and 5:00pm -- will allow those who work outside of the emergency planning zone (EPZ) to hear what the new sirens sound like.

Also, as part of federal requirements, the sirens will sound again on Tuesday, Aug. 14, at 10:30 a.m. as part of a comprehensive performance validation program.

During both of the tests, all 155 of the new sirens -- including the five new sirens recently posted at the recommendation of Westchester and Rockland counties -- will sound simultaneously at full-volume for four minutes within the ten mile EPZ. In addition to the audible siren test, you will see print advertisements, hear radio ads alerting residents and visitors to the test, and CodeRED will be instituted prior to the Saturday. Finally, WHUD Radio (100.7 FM) will test the Emergency Alert System immediately after each siren test.

Please note that these tests require NO action by the public.

If you have any questions about this test or the new system, please feel free to contact us.
