Entergy Begins Indian Point 2 Refueling Outage

April 18, 2006

Buchanan, New York - Entergy control room operators will remove the Indian Point 2 nuclear power plant from service around midnight tonight to perform the plant's seventeenth refueling outage. Workers will replace 92 of the 193 assemblies used in the reactor.

Workers also will perform scheduled equipment maintenance and inspection tasks that can only be done while the plant is shut down. The work includes replacing the plant's two main power transformers, using robots to inspect the reactor vessel, and inspecting and cleaning the four steam generators.

"Indian Point 2 operated extremely well since its last refueling in November of 2004, a result of the fine work of our employees at Indian Point and the substantial financial investment in new equipment made by Entergy," said Entergy Nuclear President Mike Kansler. "We're committed to continuing that trend and safely providing clean, reliable, and economical electricity for the benefit of our customers in southern New York."

The plant is expected to return to service in mid to late May. Indian Point 3 is currently operating at full power.
