Indian Point 3 Remains Online After Declaring an Unusual Event Due to Reduced Hudson River Water Flow

February 5, 2007

Buchanan, NY—Entergy declared an Unusual Event at the Indian Point 3 Nuclear Power Plant at 7:07 this morning when the water level in the plant's service water bay area dropped more that 4½ feet below sea level. The plant was unaffected and is operating at full power. Indian Point 2 is operating at full power.

Workers are removing debris from screens that appear to be the cause of the lowered water level. Service water cools certain plant equipment such as pumps and motors.

An Unusual Event is the lowest of four emergency action declarations. The declaration will be terminated when the water level is restored and inspections are complete. The water level in the service bay is currently rising back to normal sea level.
