Entergy Returns Indian Point 2 Nuclear Power Plant to Service
November 24, 2010

Buchanan, N.Y. - Control room operators returned the Indian Point unit 2 nuclear power plant to service Wednesday morning, Nov. 24. The plant automatically shutdown on Nov. 7 following the failure of the plant’s main electrical transformer. Workers replaced the transformer with a spare that was located onsite. The transformer failed as a result of a failed high voltage bushing.

Bushings connect the transformer to the overhead lines that carry electricity to the main electrical grid.

Unit 3 is at full power and has been online for 73 continuous days.

Indian Point Energy Center, in Buchanan, N.Y., is home to two operating nuclear power plants, unit 2 and unit 3, which generate approximately 2000 megawatts of electricity for homes, business and public facilities in New York City and Westchester County.
