INPO Board Elects Director

January 17, 2008

Jackson, Miss. – The Board of Directors of the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) elected Michael R. Kansler, president and chief nuclear officer of Entergy Nuclear, to the INPO Board.

INPO is a nonprofit corporation established by the nuclear utility industry to promote the highest levels of safety and reliability – to promote excellence – in the operation of nuclear electric generating plants.

Kansler assumed the position of president and chief nuclear officer of Entergy Nuclear in April 2007 after serving since 2000 as the company's chief operating officer for the Northeast, then as president of the same region. He joined the Entergy system in 1998 as vice president of operations support.

Before joining Entergy, Kansler spent more than 20 years at Virginia Power (now Dominion Resources). For his last two years with Virginia Power, he was vice president of its nuclear program and was responsible for the operation of Surry Power Station and North Anna Power Station.

In his position as chief nuclear officer, Kansler is responsible for all of Entergy's nuclear plants, which are located in New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, Michigan, Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas, as well as the company's management of the Cooper Nuclear Station for the State of Nebraska.

Kansler received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and completed Pennsylvania State University's executive management program.

The INPO Board includes INPO's chief executive officer plus executives elected from INPO's membership, which encompasses all U.S. commercial nuclear operating organizations.

Entergy Corporation is an integrated energy company engaged primarily in electric power production and retail distribution operations.
