Stuffing the Bus Instead of the Turkey

WFAS/Entergy Stuff-a-Bus outside Food City in Harrison, NY.

While shoppers were busy grabbing the last cans of gravy and buying a rafter of frozen turkeys, Entergy Nuclear was helping fill an entire bus with canned, boxed and chilled goods — supporting the Food Bank of Westchester and WFAS Radio's annual Stuff-a-Bus Program.

Each year, WFAS conducts a weekend-long marathon outside a local supermarket in Westchester; asking patrons for food donations that will go towards supplying hundreds of food pantries and soup kitchens throughout the Westchester area during the crucial holiday season.

As a long-time Food Bank of Westchester supporter, Entergy Nuclear sponsored this year's Stuff-a-Bus Food Drive. “Unfortunately, Westchester's affluence inadvertently masks the very real problem of hunger in the County,” stated Entergy Community Affairs Representative Lori Sheldon.

Sheldon, who also just participated in a local Easter Seals frozen turkey giveaway in Orange County added, “Given these difficult economic times, there are far more people fighting for far less resources, so we hope by collecting these generous donations we can positively impact the lives of our fellow Westchester residents in distress.”

Though the Stuff-a-Bus weekend is over, you can make additional monetary donations to the Food Bank of Westchester by visiting their web site at http://www.foodbankforwestchester.org.
