Entergy begins IP3 biennial refueling outage

The Indian Point 3 nuclear power plant was taken off line last night so that control room operators would begin the 13 th refueling outage.

Spokesman James Steets said the project should take about a month.

“Workers will replace 96 of the 193 fueling assemblies,” he said. The shut down will end a 568 day continuous run. It has been operating continuously since the August 2003 blackout.

Entergy recently was noted by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission in its annual safety assessment for significantly improving safety performance at Indian Point.
