NRC Commissioner Edward McGaffigan Said He Regretted His
Decision To Participate In Filmmaker Rory Kennedy's Documentary
On Indian Point.
Following a screening of the film today in Washington, D.C.,
McGaffigan decried some of the assertions in the documentary
as "lies and half-truths."
On his first day back on the job after recuperating from
surgery less than two weeks ago, McGaffigan, visibly exasperated,
interrupted Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s description of the plant's
security vulnerabilities and bounded to the podium to offer
a rebuttal. Robert Kennedy Jr. is Rory's brother and the
lead attorney for Riverkeeper, an environmental group that
protests being labeled antinuclear but avows its push to
permanently shut down Indian Point. He participated in the
filming of the documentary. Rory Kennedy told the audience
that she initially encountered "a lot of resistance" from
NRC to speak about the plant and security issues and thanked
McGaffigan for adding his "voice" in the film.
The documentary debuts on HBO tomorrow night.
